From Monifa Brown

Each one of us is a patchwork of our experiences and the people who have come in and out of our lives leaving impressions that have shaped us in some way. When I look back at my childhood, I often think of you and your Mom.

I loved spending time at your house and running all over the place. If it were not for Ellen helping my Mom get me into P.S. 41, I think my life would have been dramatically different. Life in the village was magical. I have always admired your kindness, openness, brilliance, beautiful spirit and smile. You have long held a special place in my heart for being part of a small circle of special friends who share the common bond of being Black and Jewish. My heart aches that you have been taken too soon.

I pray for your Mom, wife and children. My they find peace, courage and strength. May your children know their Dad was truly one of the good ones. May their heads be held high with the knowledge that their Dad's love is eternal. You are an example of a life lived with purpose and filled with love. I am better for knowing and loving you my brother.
